Every Video Game Release Date for August 2021

After a rather bare July, August looks to be a pretty crowded month when it comes to new game releases. Although there is little in the way of AAA launches from the big publishers, there is a wide selection of indie titles, re-releases, and highly anticipated ports of critically acclaimed games.

That means that the coming month will likely have at least a few titles that every gamer will want to at least try out across all platforms.

Here is every video game release date for August 2021.

Hunter’s Arena Legends

Release Date: August 3

Platforms: PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

Hunter’s Arena Legends is a PvP and PvE combat game that takes the form of a 30 player Battle Royale game. Set in ancient Asia, players must become deadly warriors in order to survive. The game has been available on PC since 2020 and has garnered a dedicated fan base.

Lemnis Gate 

Release Date: August 3

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Lemnis Gate is a brand new game that blends together turn-based combat with first-person shooter mechanics. With a unique time-loop feature, players will have to be strategic and clever in what are described as four-dimensional battles. 

Rocket Rumble 

Release Date: August 3

Platforms: PC

Rocket Rumble is a sci-fi inspired racer where players battle against up to three others as they travel through a wide array of courses. The game sees sentient animals decked out in rocket suits flying through procedurally generated levels.

The Falconeer: Warrior Edition 

Release Date: August 5

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5

The Falconeer: Warrior Edition is coming to platforms other than PC and Xbox in August. The game sees players take control of various flying birds in open-world aerial combat. This edition includes all previously released DLC, re-recorded voiceover audio, an extended tutorial, and a new content pack.

Starmancer 

Release Date: August 5

Platforms: PC

In Starmancer, players take on the role of a powerful AI who is in charge of a space station. With the choice of staying within your protocols or going rogue, the player must create successful habitats. With the ability to build ports, grow humans, defend against enemies, and hatch mysterious eggs, it is a complex strategy and management sim.

Glyph

Release Date: August 9

Platforms: PC

Glyph takes place in a world that has been devastated by a huge mechanical creature. Players take on the role of a small robotic insect that must explore the world and bring back some normality. The 3D platformer features complex aerial maneuvers and a beautiful soundtrack in what promises to be a memorable indie release.

Godfall 

Release Date: August 10

Platforms: PlayStation 4

Published by Borderlands developer Gearbox, Godfall was one of the few PlayStation 5 exclusives when it launched last year. Now releasing for the PS4, it takes players to a high fantasy world. They must battle as a member of the Knight’s Order to prevent the end of the world, using mystical elemental powers.

Lawn Mowing Simulator 

Release Date: August 10

Platforms: PC and Xbox Series X|S

Lawn Mowing Simulator is exactly the sort of game that it sounds like. Set in the Great British countryside, it gives players the opportunity to mow grass across a variety of locations. With an extensive collection of lawn mowers from real-world manufacturers, it’s up to you to create a successful business. 

Glitchpunk 

Release Date: August 11

Platforms: PC

Glitchpunk is a top-down action game inspired by classic titles from the genre. Fighting in a dystopian cyberpunk-themed future, the game puts you in the shoes of an android bounty hunter. They must track down deadly criminals in a world of brutal gangs, evil corporations, and illegal drugs. 

Foreclosed

Release Date: August 12

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Another cyberpunk-themed game, Foreclosed is a narrative experience with action-adventure elements. It follows the story of Evan Kapnos as he uncovered a conspiracy behind his own identity and the world of secret augmentations. With comic book style visuals, it looks like a distinctive release.

Naraka: Bladepoint

Release Date: August 12

Platforms: PC

Naraka: Bladepoint is the latest Battle Royale game. In what is a crowded market, the game tries to stand out with parkour-style movement and the ability to use a grappling hook. With a mixture of melee and ranged combat, the 60 player action should be chaotic and fast-paced. 

OCO

Release Date: August 13

Platforms: PC

As you might have guessed from the rather simple name, OCO is a minimalist experience. An audio-visual platformer, it requires players to solve lightning-fast puzzles. OCO will also allow players to design and share their own creations in addition to trying to get to the top of the leaderboards for each challenge.

Hades

Release Date: August 13

Platforms: Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S

What was hailed as one of the best games of 2020 is now coming to Xbox consoles in August. The previously Nintendo Switch exclusive is a narrative roguelike set in hell. Players take on the role of a prince trying to escape the underworld. It is a stylish and hectic game, with excellent combat and a brilliant story.

Paw Patrol: Adventure City Calls 

Release Date: August 13

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Designed for children who enjoy the television series, Paw Patrol: Adventure City Calls is a 3D platformer. With multiple characters from the TV show, there are lots of missions and mini-games to complete in familiar surroundings.

Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle

Release Date: August 13

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Shadowverse: Champion’s Battle is a card battling game set in the same world as the hit anime show. The game comes with an extensive story mode as well as an online multiplayer mode, giving players plenty of choice. With new summoning animations and exclusive cards, it should appeal to fans of the show.

This side-scrolling adventure game features hand-drawn animations and a thrilling soundtrack. In Greak: Memories of Azur, players must take on the role of three siblings as they try to escape the land of Azur following an invasion by the Urlags.

Humankind

Humankind is a strategy game that takes place throughout the whole of human history. It is up to the player to rewrite the story of our species, guiding the culture and society of humanity throughout different ages. The ultimate goal is to create a civilization that is entirely unique to each user.

Pile Up! Box by Box 

Release Date: August 17

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

Pile Up! Box by Box is a 3D platforming game that is built around the idea of working together in co-op. The family-friendly title is all about getting boxes of cargo to the correct locations, traversing tricky courses as a team. There are also mini-games and a range of colorful worlds to explore.

Out of Line 

Release Date: August 18

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

Described by the developer as a unique adventure game, Out of Line is a hand-drawn 2D experience. Built around the story of San trying to escape from his former factory home, it contains a series of puzzles that must be solved in a variety of different ways. 

Monster Harvest 

Release Date: August 19

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and  Xbox One

Monster Harvest is a monster collecting and farming game inspired by the likes of Harvest Moon. Players must grow and harvest a variety of crops, using them to battle monsters in the wild to add them to their own collection.

RiMS Racing

Release Date: August 19

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

RiMS Racing is a motorbike simulation game that aims to realistically bring the sport to consoles and PC. With a wide array of real-life bikes, it is up to players to get the best out of each machine. This will involve swapping parts and tweaking setups to get the most out of each motorcycle.

Twelve Minutes 

Release Date: August 19

Platforms: PC and Xbox One

Twelve Minutes is a mysterious top-down game that features the talents of James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe. Set in real time, the player must stop events escalating in a time-loop that keeps repeating. The only way to change the future is to use your knowledge of the events to switch things up.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut

Release Date: August 20

Platforms: PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5

The highly acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima is being re-released as part of the new Director’s Cut. This includes the base game, all previously released DLC, and a new adventure. It also comes with some new features that have not yet been revealed by Sony. Those who already own the title can upgrade for $20.

Madden 22

Release Date: August 20

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

The latest edition of EA’s NFL game, Madden 22 features both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes on the cover. Players can expect some improvements to the game engine, roster updates, and a few new additions to the Franchise Mode and Ultimate Team.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Release Date: August 24

Platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

The most recent game set in the iconic Aliens universe, Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a third-person survival shooter. Working as part of a team, the co-op game drops players into various locations to fight against the Xenomorph threat that could destroy humanity. 

King’s Bounty 2 

Release Date: August 24

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One

The long-awaited sequel, King’s Bounty 2 takes players back to the turn-based RPG world for the first time in many years. With darkness taking over the world, it’s up to the player to save the kingdom of Nostria. 

Psychonauts 2

Release Date: August 25

Platforms: PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S

Psychonauts 2 is the sequel to the 2005 game by Double Fine Productions. Releasing exclusively on Xbox consoles and PC, the third-person platformer will feature gameplay similar to the original title. Using a variety of psi-powers, players will have to uncover a mystery at the heart of Psychonauts Headquarters. 

Hotel Life 

Release Date: August 26

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

Hotel Life is another simulator launching in August. However, this time it puts players into the shows of a hotel manager. The goal here is to design and build the ultimate holiday destination. You’ll have to manage everything from the entertainment to the facilities to run a successful business.

No More Heroes 3

Release Date: August 27

Platforms: Nintendo Switch

The action-adventure hack and slash series is back with No More Heroes 3. More than a decade after the last main entry, this title focuses on Travis Touchdown returning to defend Earth from an alien invasion. 

Book Of Travels

Release Date: August 30

Platforms: PC

Book Of Travels is a tiny MMO that lets players create their own adventurer to explore the world of Braided Shore. With no set goals, it is up to the player to decide what they want to achieve as they set off either alone or with others in this online game.

The Big Con

Release Date: August 31

Platforms:  PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S

The Big Con is a unique title that allows players to become con artists. Set in 90s America, you take on the role of a youngster who must con their way across the country. You can pick pockets, disguise yourself to trick characters, or perform elaborate scams as part of the gameplay.
