In video games, mysterious countdown timers are usually a bad thing. However, a mysterious new counter has appeared on Capcom’s website that has many gamers very excited.
It looks like the counter is going to reach zero on February 20 / 21 at 10 p.m. PT / 1 a.m. ET, at which point we will see which game is revealed. While the mystery game could be just about anything, the smart bet seems to be a new Street Fighter game.
The main piece of evidence for this theory is that Capcom’s Street Fighter Pro Tour, a three-day fighting event, will conclude at the exact hour the countdown completes. Additionally, the Street Fighter franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year. And in a Japanese tweet last month, the company teased the future development of additional Street Fighter games.
Still, a new Street Fighter game is no guarantee. Street Fighter V came out back in 2016, and Capcom has not commented on the active development of Street Fighter VI. There is a decent chance the mystery game could be something like a new Resident Evil title, and some fans have pointed out that the font on the countdown timer looks like the iconic Resident Evil font.
