New Witcher Game Coming From CD Projekt Red

Between the ongoing popularity of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Witcher show on Netflix, the property is hotter than ever. And now, CD Projekt Red has confirmed they are working on The Witcher 4.

This great news comes directly from CD Projekt Red in a press release that is light on concrete details. For example, we don’t yet know what the game will be called or when it will come out. But there are enough details to get fans quite excited.

For example, The Witcher 4 will use the Unreal Engine 5, so the franchise is going to look better than ever. Additionally, devs promised they’ll be “kicking off a new saga for the franchise and a new technology partnership with Epic Games.” Don’t worry too much about that Epic partnership, though, as CD Projekt Red claimed on Twitter, “We are not planning on making the game exclusive to one storefront.”

Along with the announcement itself, the devs released a teaser image that has fans speculating about the possible meaning. For example, the official announcement doesn’t clarify whether this fourth game will also focus on Geralt of Rivia or not. The medallion in the teaser image looks like the one that belongs to our favorite Witcher, but it could just as easily belong to other Witchers from either the School of the Wolf or the School of the Cat.

While CD Project Red had little to say about The Witcher 4’s plot, they had much to say about partnering with Epic. And whether or not you like Epic Games, it sounds like this partnership means great things for the future of the Witcher franchise.

“It is vital for CD PROJEKT RED to have the technical direction of our next game decided from the earliest possible phase as; in the past, we spent a lot of resources and energy to evolve and adapt REDengine with every subsequent game release,” said company CTO Paweł Zawodny. “This cooperation is so exciting, because it will elevate development predictability and efficiency, while simultaneously granting us access to cutting-edge game development tools.”

Reading between the lines, it seems like CD Projekt Red is still very conscious of the numerous glitches and technical issues that plagued the much-hyped launch of Cyberpunk 2077. And partnering with Epic means that The Witcher 4 can hit the ground running.
