After 22 years, Rockstar Games co-founder, creative director, and vice president Dan Houser is leaving the company in March, Take-Two Interactive has announced. Houser co-founded Rockstar Games in 1998 with his brother Sam Houser. He received acclaim as the lead writer of the Grand Theft Auto series as well as Red Dead Redemption.
“Dan Houser’s last day will be March 11, 2020. We are extremely grateful for his contributions,” Take-Two said in a statement. “Rockstar Games has built some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful game worlds, a global community of passionate fans and an incredibly talented team, which remains focused on current and future projects.”
For ordinary gamers, this means that their beloved series will face some changes. Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series has proven to be not only a game-changer, but a cultural legacy that left its trace in history. And similar to that, it’s so easy to remember the fanfare around Red Dead Redemption 2‘s release. It’s hard to imagine that this situation will not affect Rockstar Games, but let’s see how it goes.
As for Dan, we want to say “thank you” for doing such a great job and wish him all the best in the future.
