Sony’s State of Play October 2021 Recap: Every Major Announcement

Today, Sony unleashed its latest State of Play on the world. In case you missed this showcase, we’ve rounded up all the biggest announcements that you should know about it!

Deathverse: Let It Die

The first game we got a look at was Deathverse: Let It Die. This is a follow-up to the popular online game Let It Die. In this new title, players customize their characters and then battle to the death in expansive online arenas.

You can experience Deathverse in Spring 2022, and it will be available for both PS4 and PS5.

We Are OFK 

We Are OFK is a charming game about an indie band coming together and trying to make it big. The preview promises adventures where players navigate everything from getting the band together to shamelessly flirting. Additionally, each episode in this game will feature interactive music videos.

Judging from the quirky preview which pokes fun at serious games like Fallout, this game will have a very distinct sense of humor. It is launching in 2022 for PS4 and PS5.

Bugsnax: The Isle of Bigsnax 

Bugsnax is a bit of an acquired taste (no pun intended). But fans of the game should be excited that it is getting a free DLC called The Isle of Bigsnax launching early in 2022. Whether you play this game on PS4 or PS5, this free update promises new colorful creatures, locales, and an action-packed expedition of discovery.

Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach

At this point, the Five Nights At Freddy’s franchise is a lumbering behemoth holding onto life, much like Freddy Fazbear himself. But Security Breach promises some gameplay innovations, including the fact that Freddy is your ally as you try to escape the Pizzaplex.

Freddy offers advice and directions, and you can even hop in his body to safely walk around. But you’ll need stealth, wits, and a bit of luck to survive this title when it launches for PS4 on December 16 this year.

Death’s Door 

We didn’t see that much of the action RPG Death’s Door, but what we saw looks intriguing. This is an action RPG where you play as a character who reaps souls. But when one of those souls is stolen, you must embark on a colorful and perilous adventure to retrieve it.

Players will be able to open Death’s Door on PS4 and PS5 when it launches on November 23.

KartRider: Drift

In all honesty, it’s tough to get very excited for KartRider: Drift. While it features fun character designs and fast gameplay, we can’t really ignore that this is the latest in a long line of games trying to recapture the magic of Mario Kart. Though the game will be free to play and have a beta this year, we don’t anticipate too many Mario Kart fans putting down their Switch to play this PS4 game.

King of Fighters 15

King of Fighters 15 has a large roster of fighters and the fast, competitive gameplay that fighting fans have come to expect. Available on both PS4 and PS5, this title will have many online fighting options, including both online casual matches and room matches as well as an offline training mode.

If you’re hyped for this title, you don’t have long to wait. It should be launching on February 17, 2022, and there will be an open beta test this year.

First Class Trouble 

First Class Trouble looks like it has some fun designs and character customization options along with quirky humor. But we can’t get over the fact that this is just a 3D Among Us clone with more humanoid characters. Specifically, this is a “social deduction game” in which players must figure out who the evil “personoids” are before the baddies wipe the humans out.

You can check this one out for yourself sooner rather than later. It will be available for PS4 and PS5 and will be a free game available via PlayStation Plus from November 2–6.

Star Ocean: The Divine Force

“All style, no substance” is the perfect description for our preview of Star Ocean: The Divine Force. The game’s graphics look breathtaking, and the portrayal of the anime-inspired characters and alien landscapes are quite memorable. But the preview itself didn’t show us much beyond characters exploring a strange new world while they stay one step ahead of a nefarious bad guy.

Then again, the Star Ocean series has generally been very solid. We look forward to seeing more from this title before it launches in 2022 for both PS4 and PS5.

Little Devil Inside 

How far can adorable design really take you? That was what we pondered while watching the preview for Little Devil Inside. The game’s chibi designs and atmospheric environments really stood out from the other games today. But we saw only glimpses of the gameplay, which seems to focus on a combination of exploration, combat, and survival.

This title has been delayed before and will hopefully see a release in 2022. And when it finally launches for PS4 and PS5, we’ll finally get to see what it’s all about.
